Aristotle:Poetics.; Longinus: On the Sublime; Demetrius: On Style (Loeb Classical Library No. 199)
This volume brings together the three most influential ancient Greek treatises on literature Aristotle's Poetics contains his treatment of Greek tragedy: its history, nature, and conventions, with details on poetic diction. Stephen Halliwell makes this seminal work newly accessible with a reliable text and a translation that is both accurate and readable. His authoritative introduction traces the work's debt to earlier theorists (especially Plato), its distinctive argument, and the reasons behind its enduring relevance. The essay On the Sublime, usually attributed to "Longinus" (identity uncertain), was probably composed in the first century CE; its subject is the appreciation of greatness ("the sublime") in writing, with analysis of illustrative passages ranging from Homer and Sappho to Plato. In this edition, Donald Russell has revised and newly annotated the text and translation by W. Hamilton Fyfe, and supplied a new introduction. The treatise On Style, ascribed to an (again unidentifiable) Demetrius, was perhaps composed during the second century BCE. It is notable particularly for its theory and analysis of four distinct styles (grand, elegant, plain, and forceful). Doreen Innes' fresh rendering of the work is based on the earlier Loeb translation by W. Rhys Roberts. Her new introduction and notes represent the latest scholarship. .

Know Your Mass
by Fr. Demetrius Manousos. Originally published by the Catechetical Guild in 1954 (Imprimatur Francis Cardinal Spellman), this is a comic book unlike any other. Know Your Mass is a detailed, fully illustrated, step-by-step explanation of the Traditional Latin Mass now reprinted for the first time in full color! The book presents the theology of the Mass in a manner easily understood by children and yet is incredibly interesting and informative for adults as well. This should come as no surprise to those who have read The Seven Sacraments, another Angelus Press reprint by Fr. Manousos, who has the amazing ability to take solid theology and present it to children...without dumbing it down. He was truly a gifted writer. This makes Know Your Mass an excellent catechetical tool for all ages. All parts of the Holy Sacrifice are covered, from the preparation for Mass, the altar, sacred vessels and vestments, liturgical actions, the sanctuary, and some liturgical history as well, including helpful suggestions for children to get the most or should we say GIVE the most at Mass. Ideal, NO, PERFECT, as a First Holy Communion gift. Great for converts as well. Anyone who delves into this book cannot come away ignorant of the true significance of the liturgical representation of Our Lord s Sacrifice on Calvary that is the Holy Mass. Highly recommended. 96pp, softcover..

The Dounis Collection
Demetrius Constantine Dounis (1886-1954) was one of te most prominent violin pedagogues of the twentieth century. Dounis' work in violin pedagogy extended to many areas, but there are two specific areas for which he was highly revered and influential in how own time and today. The first was his intense concern with the proper ergonomics of violin playing, for example, the horizontal and vertical movements of the left hand, the importance of muscular development and relaxation, the development of finger strength and independence in the left hand, and the proper means for gripping the bow in the right hand. The second area is his emphasis on the role of the brain, not the arms or the fingers, in proper violin practicing and playing. The eleven books in this collection are the most comprehensive collection of this master pedagogue's work ever published..

A Mystical Portrait of Jesus: New Perspectives on John's Gospel
The poetic and symbolic nature of John's gospel betrays the weakness of historical-critical and other "scientific" methods of scriptural exegesis: Although valuable for the insights they do provide, scientific methods are not sensitive to the spiritual dimensions of biblical revelation. Father Dumm therefore offers something more than the traditional chapter-and-verse commentary. Understanding that all of the gospels were written after the resurrection and, consequently, that the passion narrative greatly influenced how the earlier chapters were composed, Father Dumm gives more prominence to the climax of the career of Jesus: his passion, death, and resurrection. By beginning "at the end," Father Dumm uncovers the guiding principle of this gospel. In the process he makes some surprising discoveries about the dangers of religious ritual but finds remedy for these dangers in the importance of personal mystical experience within the context of a believing community..

So We Do Not Lose Heart Biblical Wisdom for All Our Days
This book contains 83 short reflections on passages of scripture which address, from various perspectives, the perennial human problem of mortality. A prominent theme in these reflections is, therefore, an invitation to trust the goodness of God in situations where we experience loss of control and the consequent need to rely on a higher power for love and support. These reflections also remind us that reliance on the goodness of God need not be a desperate last resort but can in fact be a joyful discovery that will illuminate the whole landscape of our lives..

Number Theory and the Periodicity of Matter
The main purpose of the book is to communicate a fundamental principle to the scientific world. The eventual impact of the subject matter is considered to be much wider than the readership of the preliminary accounts which have been published. The number principle at issue is known to be of wide general interest and the book has also been written to be accessible to nonspecialists. The potential readership should extend way beyond academic scientists. The discovery described in this book could be of seminal significance, also in other fields where the golden ratio is known to be of fundamental importance. The most obvious connection is with Fibonacci phylotaxis in the study of botanical growth and the number basis of DNA coding. In another context it may impinge on crystallographic periodicity and the structure of quasicrystals. These topics are beyond the scope of this book and hence it is all the more important that the power of number theory to describe physical systems be disseminated more widely. .
