Cecily Brown
Cecily Brown creates lush, visceral canvases based on a combination of figuration and abstraction Her technical proficiency has earned her comparisons to Lucian Freud, Willem de Kooning, and Francis Bacon, yet it is her unique ability to convey the pleasurable and fleeting aspects of sensation that drive her work.Cecily Brown rapidly rose to success in the late 1990's, and was credited with having contributed to the resurgence of painting at the turn of the millennium. With a visual repertoire indebted as much to the classical themes of the old masters as to porn magazines and Hollywood films, Brown’s paintings challenge traditional interpretations and compel us to reconsider the act of painting from a decidedly feminine viewpoint..

Jenny Saville
At thirty-two, Jenny Saville has had a career most artists twice her age would envy. In 1992, the year she completed her studies at Glasgow School of Art, her graduation exhibition sold out. Most notably, one painting was bought by Charles Saatchi and, since then, her international reputation has grown at a rapid and steady pace.Jenny Saville is described as a "New Old Master" for the technical proficiency of her oversize nudes that have earned her comparisons to Rubens and Lucian Freud and universal praise from critics and art historians alike. For the conceptual underpinnings of her work, she has been hailed as one of the most interesting artists of the last decade. Her work has been shown alongside that of Damien Hirst and the other Young British Artists in the acclaimed and seminal survey of new British art Sensation at the Royal Academy (London, 1997) and the Brooklyn Museum of Art (New York, 2000).This is the only monograph devoted to the critically acclaimed young artist and features all of Jenny Saville's paintings to date-including many previously unpublished. This volume is being published in association with the Gagosian Gallery in London. The power of her brilliant and relentless embodiment of our worst anxieties about our own corporeality and gender is what distinguishes Saville from other paint-obsessed representers of the naked human body. To my eye, no other artist in recent memory has combined empathy and distance with such visual and emotional impact. -Linda Nochlin, Art in America, March 2000.

John Currin
One of the leading figurative painters of his generation, Currin's influences range from Italian and Northern Renaissance paintings to popular illustrations from the mid-20th century. Whether portraits of older women, buxom girls, nudes with elongated bodies, or group scenes of domestic life, his works are characterized by baroque gestures, loose brushstrokes, unorthodox palettes, and detailed backgrounds that startle the viewer into a reconsideration of the tradition of painting. His "old master" techniques and individual style have earned him accolades from critics and collectors worldwide..

Tom Friedman
This book is devoted to Tom Friedman's exceptional body of work over the past nineteen years. Starting with commonplace objects like plastic cups, construction paper and Hefty garbage bags, this prolific artist transforms the often overlooked into playfully philosophical works that are ordinary and extraordinary at the same time.Friedman forces his viewers to reconsider the criteria for what is called "art" by exploring the material qualities of the object and the experiential process of making art through repetition, mutation, and dimension. While his work can demand a level of trust and reflection, it often rewards the viewer by sparking a childlike curiosity that sets one free to the beautifully endless potential of the everyday. The book features over 250 colour illustrations and encompasses 200 artworks that reflect Friedman's humour, his painstaking craftsmanship, and the unending inventiveness that distinguishes his work..

The book was first published on the occasion of the 2002 exhibition of the same name at Gagosian’s Chelsea gallery. A timeline documenting the Ferus gallery’s history opens the fully illustrated catalogue, followed by an interview with Irving Blum by Roberta Bernstein and a critical discussion of Warhol’s Campbell’s soup can paintings by Kirk Varnedoe. This hardcover edition is 148 pages, with 93 color and 67 black-and-white reproductions, including evocative documentary photography by Dennis Hopper..

Richard Serra: Rolled and Forged
In this volume, four distinct works by the important American sculptor Richard Serra are linked by a common theme: each is based on the relationship between the viewer and a horizontal or planar elevation on eye level. Elevations, Repetitions is a complex of 16 elements of different heights; Equal Weights and Measures is composed of six equal blocks of forged steel, rotated such that it's difficult to confirm that sameness. No Relief consists of two 60-foot, six-inch-thick horizontal slabs flush to the wall on opposite sides of a narrow room, compressing the elongated space. And Round is a forged steel work with a diameter of 84 inches and a weight of 50 tons, set on an unnerving slope. Serra's other recent projects include an eight-part permanent installation at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao and a Spring 2007 survey at The Museum of Modern Art..
