Reconfigurable Antennas (Synthesis Lectures on Antennas and Propagation)
Antennas are necessary and critical components of communication and radar systems Making antennas reconfigurable so that their behavior can adapt with changing system requirements or environmental conditions can ameliorate or eliminate these restrictions and promises to provide additional levels of functionality for any system. If a single reconfigurable antenna could deliver the same functionality of more than one traditional single-purpose system, significant savings in cost, weight, volume, and maintenance/repair resources may be realizable. Reconfigurable Antennas describes in detail the critical parameters for antenna operation, as well as possible methods for achieving reconfigurability in each of these parameters. It also discusses practical issues surrounding the implementation of reconfigurable antennas, including feed methods, bias line design and implementation, and component selection. Finally, the book offers a view of the future of reconfigurable antennas and their promise to expand and improve system functionality in a range of different operating scenarios..

Cryptographic Algorithms on Reconfigurable Hardware (Signals and Communication Technology)
Cryptographic solutions using software methods can be used for those security applications where data traffic is not too large and low encryption rate is tolerable On the other hand, hardware methods offer high-speed solutions making them highly suitable for applications where data traffic is fast and large data is required to be encrypted in real time. VLSI (also known as ASIC), and FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) are two alternatives for implementing cryptographic algorithms in hardware. FPGAs offer several benefits for cryptographic algorithm implementations over VLSI as they offer high flexibility. Due to its reconfigurable property, keys can be changed rapidly. Moreover, basic primitives in most cryptographic algorithms can efficiently be implemented in FPGAs. Since the invention of the Data Encryption Standard (DES), some 40 years ago, a considerable amount of cryptographic algorithm implementation literature has been produced both, for software and hardware platforms. Unfortunately, virtually there exists no book explaining how the main cryptographic algorithms can be implemented on reconfigurable hardware devices. This book will cover the study of computational methods, computer arithmetic algorithms, and design improvement techniques needed to implement efficient cryptographic algorithms in FPGA reconfigurable hardware platforms. The concepts and techniques to be reviewed in this book will make special emphasis on the practical aspects of reconfigurable hardware design, explaining the basic mathematics related and giving a comprehensive description of state-of-the-art implementation techniques. Thus, the main goal of this monograph is to show how high-speed cryptographic algorithms implementations can be achieved on reconfigurable hardware devices without posing prohibited high requirements for hardware resources. .

Changeable and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (Springer Series in Advanced Manufacturing)
Change, in products and systems, has become a constant in manufacturing Changeable and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems discusses many key strategies for success in this environment. Changes can most often be anticipated but some go beyond the design range. This requires providing innovative change enablers and adaptation mechanisms. Changeable and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems presents the new concept of Changeability as an umbrella framework that encompasses many paradigms such as agility, adaptability, flexibility and reconfigurability. The book provides the definitions and classification of key terms in this new field, and emphasizes the required physical/hard and logical/soft change enablers. Over 22 chapters, the book presents cutting edge technologies, the latest thinking and research results, as well as future directions to help manufacturers stay competitive. It contains original contributions and results from senior international experts, experienced practitioners and accomplished researchers in the field of manufacturing, together with industrial applications. Changeable and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems serves as a comprehensive reference and textbook for industrial professionals, managers, engineers, specialists, researchers and academics in manufacturing, industrial and mechanical engineering; and general readers who are interested to learn about the new and emerging manufacturing paradigms and their potential impact on the workplace and future jobs. .

Compilation Techniques for Reconfigurable Architectures
This book describes a wide range of code transformations and mapping techniques for compiling programs written in high-level programming languages to reconfigurable architectures. While many of these transformations and mapping techniques have been developed in the context of compilation for traditional architectures and high-level synthesis, their application to reconfigurable architectures poses a whole new set of challenges- particularly when targeting fine-grained reconfigurable architectures such as contemporary Field-Programmable Gate-Arrays (FPGAs). Organized in eight chapters, this book provides a helpful structure for practitioners and graduate students in the area of computer science and electrical and computer engineering to effectively map computations to reconfigurable architectures. Key Features: - Introduces the reader to hardware compilation and reconfigurable computing architectures.
- Presents a range of compiler code transformations and mapping techniques focusing on imperative programming languages.
- Allows the reader to bridge the gap between the software compilation and the hardware compilation and synthesis domains.
- Brings a number of compilation techniques together into one structured source, and includes representative examples of their applications.
- Provides a historical perspective on representative compilation research efforts over the last 15 years.

Electronics System Design Techniques for Safety Critical Applications (Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering)
The main purpose of the present manuscript addresses the development of techniques for the evaluation and the hardening of designs implemented on SRAM-based Field Programmable Gate Arrays against the radiation induced effects such as Single Event Upsets (SEUs) or Soft-Errors (SEs). The perspective of the analysis and the design flows proposed in this manuscript are aimed at defining a novel and complete design methodology solving the industrial designer’s needs for implementing electronic systems using SRAM-based FPGAs in critical environments, like the space or avionic ones. The main contribution of the proposed manuscript consists in a new reliability-oriented place and route algorithm that, coupled with Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR), is able to effectively mitigate the effects of radiation in SRAM-based FPGA devices. The manuscript offers also the analysis of several fields where the usage of reconfigurable logic devices introduces several advantages such as the reconfigurable computing for multimedia applications and biomedical applications. .

Reconfigurable Computing: Accelerating Computation with Field-Programmable Gate Arrays
This volume is unique: the first comprehensive exposition of the exciting new field of Reconfigurable Computing with FPGAs. By mapping algorithms directly into programmable logic, FPGA accelerators offer and deliver 10X-100X performance increases over microprocessors for a large range of application domains. Reconfigurable computing is found in virtually every computing milieu, from satellites to supercomputers. By loading new hardware circuits onto the FPGA, or even modifying parts of the circuit during operation, reconfigurable computers achieve performance rivaling application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), yet are built from commodity parts. The authors are among the originators of Reconfigurable Computing and are recognized leaders in the field. Drawing on their deep familiarity with RC, they survey every aspect of the field, from FPGA device architecture, reconfigurable systems architectures, programming languages and compilation tools to the application domains of signal processing, image processing, network security, bioinformatics, and supercomputing. Although citations to original sources are abundant, nevertheless, the book is accessible to the science and technology practitioner and student. Reconfigurable Computing is of especially topical to computer science and engineering researchers as well as professionals in high performance computing and embedded computing. .
