Creation and the Environment: An Anabaptist Perspective on a Sustainable World (Center Books in Anabaptist Studies)
Recent years have seen a shift in the belief that a religious world-view, specifically a Christian one, precludes a commitment to environmentalism Whether as "stewards of God's creation" or champions of "environmental justice," church members have increasingly found that a strong pro-ecology stand on environmental issues is an integral component of their faith. But not all Christian denominations are latecomers to the issue of environmentalism. In Creation and the EnvironmentCalvin W. Redekop and his co-authors explain the unique environmental position of the Anabaptists, in particular the Mennonites. After a brief survey of the major forces contributing to the word's present ecological crisis, Creation and the Environment explores the uniquely Anabaptist view of our relationship to what they see as the created order. In rural Amish and Mennonite communities, they explain, the environment -- especially the "land" -- is considered part of the Kingdom God plans to establish on earth. In this view, the creation is part of the divine order, with the redemption of humankind inextricably linked to the redemption and restoration of the material world. The well-being a purpose of creation and human history are thus seen as completely interdependent. Power, Authority, and the Anabaptist Tradition (Center Books in Anabaptist Studies)
Founded in part on a rejection of "worldly" power and the use of force, Anabaptism carried with it the promise of redemptive use of power. Yet the attempt to banish power to the margins of the Christian community has been fraught with dilemmas, contradictions, and, at times, blatant abuses of authority. In this groundbreaking book, Benjamin W. Redekop, Calvin W. Redekop, and their co-authors draw on classic and contemporary thinking to confront the issue of power in the Anabaptist-Mennonite community. From the power relationships of the sixteenth-century Peasants' War to issues of contemporary sexuality, the topics of Power, Authority, and the Anabaptist Tradition are sure to interest a wide audience..

Changing Paradigms: Punishment and Restorative Discipline
Paul Redekop taps more than 20 years of experience in restorative justice to conclude that the practice of punishment is a major obstacle to healthy societies, families, and schools. Punishment is so damaging to relationships, especially in children, that it should be reassessed on philosophical, spiritual, religious grounds, Redekop argues. It should be replaced with restorative discipline, and societies should move toward a punishment-free justice system..

Thomas Friesen has three goals in life: get a job, make friends, and find a good book to curl up with. After landing a job at READ, the newest hypermegabookstore, he feels he may have accomplished all three. All is not peaceable within the stacks, however, as discontent steadily rises, aimed squarely at talk show host Munroe Purvis, whose wildly popular book club is progressively lowering the IQ of North America. But the bookworms have a plan—plots are being hatched and the destruction of Munroe is all but assured. As Thomas finds himself swept along in the malstrom of insanity, he wonders if reading a book is all it's cracked up to be. .

The Pax Story: Service in the Name of Christ, 1951-1976
For twenty-five years, starting in 1951, a group of "Pax-ers" showed by their example that there are still persons motivated by good will and desire to serve in a world that seems to include more than enough selfishness This was one of the first-if not the first-overseas alternative service programs. It was enthusiastically approved by Selective Service Director Lewis B. Heshey. As author and historian Redekop explored the Pax experience (and remembered his own Pax years), he became convinced that here was an inspiring story demanding to be told. The Pax Story includes careful yet accessible analysis and reflection, extended personal accounts of what the Pax experience meant for those who served, photos, extensive notes, and index..
