Pain-Free Living for Drug-Free People: A Guide to Pain Management in Recovery

An authoritative guide to pain control and pain medications for people in recovery

People in recovery from addiction who also suffer from pain face a special challenge: Can they use today’s most effective pain medications without triggering relapse? Here, two leading experts in addictive diseases and pain medication examine issues related to pain control and addiction, including types of pain and pain medication; non-pharmacological, physical treatments for pain; and psychological approaches to dealing with pain. This is an essential guidebook for recovering people, caregivers, and medical professionals who need timely and trustworthy information in order to make safe decisions about pain control. Special features include easy-to-use charts classifying over-the-counter drugs as safe or unsafe for recovering people, case histories of individuals in recovery who successfully managed pain without risking relapse, and the latest facts about often-abused prescription drugs such as OxyContin and Vicadin.

The Making of a Periphery: Economic Development and Cultural Encounters in Southern Tanzania, Seminar Proceedings No. 32 (Seminar Proceedings (Nordiska Afrikainstitutet), No. 32.)
What makes a periphery? The south-eastern corner of Tanzania is officially one of the poorest corners of the world and is always presented as a peripheral area. This volume presents a lively discussion on the making of a periphery. The contributors show the interaction between the perceptions of outsiders, the views of local people, and the actual development efforts. The authors perceive development as a negotiated and contested field. Culture is not considered a factor constraining development but is seen rather as an engine which, due to the plurality of local and outsider cultures, sets the parameters for the battle..

The Physical Geography of Fennoscandia (Oxford Regional Environments)
This is the fifth volume to appear in the Oxford Regional Environments series. Fennoscandia is composed of Finland ('Fennia' in Latin) and the Scandinavian peninsula (Norway and Sweden). A team of experts here presents the physical geographical factors which affect and control life in this northern area. The contributors concentrate on topics which are characteristic of the region, scientifically sound, and not necessarily familiar to an international audience, such as land uplift, large drumlin fields and eskers, mires, snow, the timberline, fjords, archipelagos, lakes, scattered frost features, and the biodiversity of conservation..

Screw optimization of a co-rotating twin-screw extruder for a binary immiscible blend.: An article from: Polymer Engineering and Science
This digital document is an article from Polymer Engineering and Science, published by Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc. on February 15, 1995. The length of the article is 4103 words. From the author: The effect of the screw configuration of a closely intermeshing co-rotating twin-screw extruder on residence time and mixing efficiency was studied for an uncompatibilized immiscible PA6/PP (80:20) bend. Alternative screw configurations were investigated systematically. The residence time distribution (RTD) was found to be a poor indicator of the total mixing efficiency, whereas the mixing intensity function yielded considerably better information. High shear stress, sufficient residence time, and high fill ratio in the melting section of the screw were the most important factors in achieving good dispersion of the minor phase. The evolution of morphology along the screw axis depended strongly on the screw configuration. The downstream flow characteristics after the screw end determined the final morphology of the blend.
