Uncoded Woman: Poems
Coding and decoding are the themes of Anne-Marie Oomen's collection of poems, which together tell the story of a woman named Bead and her search for a safe harbor. The maritime International Code of Signals becomes a symbolic guide to Bead's journey, lending weightier meaning to boating phrases such as "You should proceed with caution" and "I am continuing to search." The beautiful terrain near Lake Michigan forms a powerful backdrop to the exploration of the life of a woman and her Native American lover, whose poverty and desperation are in stark contrast to the wealthy resort community around them. As an essayist and playwright, Oomen is known for her ability to convey the inner landscape of a woman's mind; this is her first book of poetry.

The Uncoded World: A Poetic Semiosis of the Wandered
The Uncoded World focuses on how the understanding and making of signs and symbols can be enriched when the felt knowledge of the human body is integrated with thought. Vivian Darroch-Lozowski characterizes the place of this process as the uncoded world. Applying postmodern and semiotic concepts, as well as metaphors and allegory, the study takes up the task of bringing the uncoded world into human studies and philosophy without violating the uncoded world's integrity and wholeness. An exact array of ideas, theoretical projections, and the multiple voices of the writing unfurl a new discourse in order to prepare us for what comes after postmodernism..

Performance Evaluation of Different Jamming Strategies Over Uncoded Noncoherent Fast Frequency Hopping MFSK Communication Systems
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA DEPT OF INFORMATIONAL SCIENCES report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A652724. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The fast frequency hopping technique is considered one of the most effective Electronic Protective Measures (EPM) for military communications systems in order to mitigate the effect of a follower or repeat jammer. This thesis evaluates the performance of different jamming strategies as barrage noise jamming, partial band jamming and multitone band jamming against an uncoded noncoherent FFH/MFSK system with a conventional receiver. The theoretical and simulated results showed that the best jamming strategies for the examined modulation orders M=2,4,8 is the optimum case of multitone band jamming. As a second goal, this thesis also provides a preliminary analysis for an uncoded noncoherent FFH/MFSK system in a Rayleigh fading channel. This analysis includes the theoretical and simulated results for the influence in the performance from a barrage noise jammer along with AWGN. The results of the theoretical analysis and the simulation modeling for both cases can be used as guidelines to analyze more complicated jamming or combinations of jamming strategies against FFH/MFSK communication system..

Optimum Bit-by-Bit Power Allocation for Minimum Distortion Transmission - Optimum Power Allocation Scheme for Uncoded/Coded Systems
Digital communications is an important part of modern communications A digital communication system usually converts analog signals such as voice and video into discrete symbols which can be represented as bits (quantization) and transmits them in a form that can be received reliably. A conventional digital communication system usually transmits all the bits obtained from the quantizer with the same power. In this book, we consider a joint souce-channel coding problem and minimize the end-to-end mean square error distortion (MSE) of a communication system through power allocation to the transmitted bits. This communication system consists of a quantizer with natural binary mapping and Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulator at the transmitter and we consider the cases with and without coding. We show that there is an optimal transmit power allocation to the transmitted bits of the quantized word that minimizes MSE. In the first part of the book, the case with no channel coding is considered with hard decision decoding at the receiver. The optimum power allocation is determined analytically by using the Chernoff bound and through computer-based optimization methods. In the second part of the book, SPC codes and Hamming codes are considered. A near optimum power allocation scheme is derived and near optimum power allocation is obtained. In the last part of the book, we look at a scheme to find a general power allocation scheme for all block codes. The book is addressed to professionals and researchers in wireless communications..
