What tax class is your real estate?: An article from: Journal of Property Management
This digital document is an article from Journal of Property Management, published by Institute of Real Estate Management on March 1, 1996. The length of the article is 2621 words. The page length shown above is based on a typical 300-word page. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Digital Locker immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. From the supplier: Taxpayers should be aware of the tax classification of their real estate holdings because this determines the income tax treatment of their properties. There are four separate classifications: held for personal use, held for sale to customers, held for trade or business, and held for investment. Personal-use real estate is the principal residence of the taxpayer and includes a single-family house, mobile home, cooperative apartment, trailer, houseboat, and condominium. On the other hand, real estate held for sale is considered inventory and known as dealer property. Meanwhile, real estate held for use in a trade or business includes industrial plants owned by manufacturers or retail stores owned by retailers. Finally, investment real estate includes property held for capital appreciation instead of the receipt of rental income. Examples are unimproved parcel of land or lots.
