A BOOK OF PREFACES
This fourthprinting of "A Book of Prefaces" offers me temptation, as the third did, to revise the whole book, and particularly the chapters on Conrad, Dreiser and Huneker, all of whom have printed important new books since the text was completed In addition, Huneker has died. But the changes that I'd make, after all, would be very slight, and so it seems better not to make them at all. From Conrad have come "The Arrow of Gold" and "The Rescue," not to mention a large number of sumptuous reprints of old magazine articles, evidently put between covers for the sole purpose of entertaining collectors. From Dreiser have come "Free," "Twelve Men," "Hey, Rub-a-Dub-Dub" and some chapters of autobiography. From Huneker, before and after his death, have come "Unicorns," "Bedouins," "Steeple-Jack," "Painted Veils" and "Variations." But not one of these books materially modifies the position of its author. ".

The acerbic statesman. (profile of Czech Prime Minister Vaclav Klaus) (Cover Story): An article from: Chief Executive (U.S.)
This digital document is an article from Chief Executive (U.S.), published by Chief Executive Publishing on September 1, 1994. The length of the article is 807 words. The page length shown above is based on a typical 300-word page. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Digital Locker immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. From the supplier: Czech Prime Minister Vaclav Klaus is perhaps the most controversial leader in post-communist Eastern Europe. To his admirers, Klaus is a freedom-loving democrat who has helped transform his country into the regions's most vibrant economy. His detractors, however, describe him in a totally different light. He has, for example, been called a political adventurist who encouraged the breakup of Czechoslovakia for his own political gain, unmindful of its economic consequences. His reputation as a politician aside, one undeniable fact remains. Under his leadership, the Czech Republic has become the most promising emerging economy in Eastern Europe, one that now has the region's lowest unemployment and inflation rates.
