Large-scale Assessment Programs for All Students: Validity, Technical Adequacy, and Implementation
The need for a comprehensive volume that reviews both the processes and issues involved in developing, administering, and validating large-scale assessment programs has never been greater. These programs are used for many purposes, including instructional program evaluation, promotion, certification, graduation, and accountability. One of the greatest problems we face is how to deal with special needs and bilingual populations. Examining these processes and issues is the mission of this book. It is organized into the following five sections: Introduction, Validity Issues, Technical Issues, Implementation Issues, and Epilogue. Each chapter follows a common structure: Overview of critical issues, review of relevant research, descriptions of current assessment methodologies, and recommendations for the future research and practice. Written by nationally recognized scholars, Large-Scale Assessment Programs for All Students: Validity, Technical Adequacy, and Implementation will appeal toanyone seriously involved in large scale testing, including educators, policymakers, testing company personnel, and researchers in education, psychology, and public policy. .

Basel-2 capital adequacy: Computing the 'fair' capital charge for loan commitment 'true' credit risk [An article from: International Review of Financial Analysis]
This digital document is a journal article from International Review of Financial Analysis, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. Description: This research makes two contributions: (i) to price analytically put option and extension premium embedded in a borrower-extendible commitment, and (ii) to compute the 'fair' capital charge that corresponds to the commitment 'true' credit risk. In doing so, the procedure replaces the BIS accounting-based concepts of credit-conversion factor, principal-risk factor, and initial term to maturity of irrevocable commitments with the market-based concepts of exercise-cum-takedown proportion and put value implicit in the borrower-extendible commitment, respectively. Finally, the approach is developed one step further to account for the borrowers' risk ratings by public credit agencies; this results in a two-dimensional (time-state of nature) risk-weighting system that applies to all commitment types. .

Final Test: The Battle for Adequacy in America's Schools
An in-depth look at "the brave new world of school finance" (Education Week) and the latest struggle for equality in public education.Final Test describes a powerful new movement that has emerged across America in recent years to bridge the wide gap still separating the achievement of African American and Latino students from their white and Asian counterparts more than half a century after Brown v. Board. In the past fifteen years, scholars, judges, and advocates for poor children have begun to develop a progressive approach to education in which public policies and funding are based on calculations of "adequacy"—what it actually takes in teachers, books, facilities, and other resources to educate each child. While Schrag explains the legal and legislative battles for reform with great insight and clarity, he also never loses sight of the human side of the story, "describing in poignant detail the impact of funding inequities on individual students and why 'money matters' in rectifying educational inadequacies" (Advocacy Center for Children's Educational Success with Standards). As the California Journal raved, "few writers can translate complex ideas into compelling nonfiction like Peter Schrag.".
