"I was ashamed It was a confession of weakness For years, depression meant the crazy house. I just physically couldn't." --Kitty Dukakis They have made the impossible climb into the spotlight and attained their brightest dreams. The Arduous Beginning
Few men are better equipped than Marshal A. Eremenko, successively Commander of the Soviet Western and Bryansk Fronts and the Fourth Shock Army, to relate the story of the early months of resistance to the sudden and treacherous Nazi assault on the Soviet Union in 1941. The facts compiled between these covers were drawn by the author from his own wartime experiences, from war histories and archives, and the eyewitness accounts of other war veterans. The book tells the story of Soviet resistance in the central sector of the Soviet-German war front, notably at Mogilev and Smolensk, between July 1941 and February 1942. The author pays eloquent tribute to the devotion and prowess of the Soviet soldier, who fought tenaciously against overwhelming odds to stem the Nazi avalanche. He restores the truth and justice in respect to the brave Soviet generals whose good name was licentiously besmirched at the time of the Stalin cult. A special section in the book deals with hitherto unpublished facts about Soviet defense preparations on the eve of the Nazi attack..

An Arduous Climb: From the Creeks of the Niger Delta to Leading Obstetrician and University Chancellor
An Arduous Climb narrates the extraordinary story of Kelsey Atangamuerimo Harrison, who rose from humble origins in the creeks of Niger Delta of Nigeria to become a leading obstetrician, respected scholar, inspirational teacher, conscientious Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, and recipient of several honours, including Nigeria's highest honour for intellectual accomplishment. Told with remarkable candour, the book narrates how the chaos, corruption, violence and intrigues during his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt were often overwhelming, and nearly ruined his personal life. His experiences during the Civil War (1967-1970), in particular his deep involvements with the rehabilitation of maternity services in his home state of Rivers after the war, are very illuminating. ____________________________________________________________ Kelsey Harrison was born in the Niger Delta of Nigeria in 1933 and qualified as an obstetrician and gynaecologist from University College Hospital London in 1964. He taught variously at the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Port Harcourt, where he eventually became the Vice Chancellor. Widely regarded as one of the leading obstetricians in the world, he was in 1989 awarded Nigeria's highest honour for intellectual attainment, the Nigerian National Order of Merit. A passionate cricketer, he retired in 1998, and now lives in Finland with his second wife..
