This is a book about how to work with Emotionally Disturbed and Behaviorally Disordered students The author will help teachers, administrators and parents understand why students with behavior problems act the way they do and explain practical techniques that can be used to control these behaviors, including a point and level system complete with classroom forms.
The author began teaching in 1983 and started working with Behaviorally Disordered students in 1986. He taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and at four different psychiatric hospitals.
In 1994 he was hired to help design a behavior control system for the Corpus Christi Independent School District in Texas for use in their Special Education program.
After leaving the classroom he became a Head Middle School counselor and then a district-wide Special Education counselor working with Behaviorally Disordered students. He is currently a High School counselor in San Diego, California.
Since it’s publication in 2000 What Do I Do With These Kids? has been used as a textbook by universities and colleges, and as a basis for behavior control programs throughout the United States and the world.
The fifth edition includes a new chapter on the No Child Left Behind Act and it’s impact on the Behaviorally Disordered/Emotionally Disturbed classroom.
