Handbook of Chlorination and Alternative Disinfectants, 4th Edition
The essential sourcebook on disinfectants for water purification

For more than two decades, George Clifford White's handbook has been known as one of the most vital references on all aspects of chlorination, dechlorination, and the use of alternative disinfectants such as chloramines, ozone, bromine, and ultraviolet radiation. This latest edition features expanded and updated material in every chapter-crucial information for professionals in industries ranging from water treatment, toxicology, and food packaging to industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, and paper processing.

White shows how to harness the possibilities of chlorine and other disinfectants for purification. He offers detailed coverage of chlorine hazards-including how to cope with major leaks-and provides insightful profiles of chlorine accidents as well as strategies for avoiding them. Handbook of Chlorination and Alternative Disinfectants, Fourth Edition also covers:
* Biomedical and environmental effects of chlorine
* New advances in equipment, facilities, and operations
* The important problem of virus infiltration of water supplies
* Chlorine supplies as critical resources, and the issue of their depletion
* American and European chlorination practices

Handbook of Chlorination and Alternative Disinfectants, Fourth Edition is a key resource for researchers, designers, and equipment manufacturers; an ideal reference for regulatory agencies; and a user-friendly operations manual for technicians..

Disinfection and Decontamination: Principles, Applications and Related Issues
In the battle between humans and microbes, knowledge may be not only the best weapon but also the best defense Pulling contributions from 34 experts into a unified presentation, Disinfection and Decontamination: Principles, Applications, and Related Issues provides coverage that is both sophisticated and practical. The book reviews the fundamentals, explores the interdisciplinary nature of the science, and includes discussions of regulatory and legal issues. While the chapters present in depth coverage of infections in hospitals, they also widen their scope to include laboratories outside the healthcare environment.

Based on practical experience, the volume examines recent advances in the research, development, and applications for disinfection and decontamination in many different settings. The chapters address, and supply insight into, the issues found with infectious disease, devices and new materials for implantation, principles, mechanisms, testing methods and strategies, and various applications. They also cover current research and best practice for ways to reduce infection caused by devices. The book’s emphasis on new technologies highlights the need for safer biocides and microbiological concerns in the manufacturing environment.

The broad focus combined with the global, interdisciplinary panel of authors gives you a snapshot of disease transmission, perspectives on infectious challenges and solutions in a global perspective, and an understanding of global governance. The book offers in depth information on specific topics and an understanding of the fundamentals, giving you a starting point and precise information for resolving problems..

Preventing HIV Transmission: The Role of Sterile Needles and Bleach
This volume addresses the interface of two major national problems: the epidemic of HIV-AIDS and the widespread use of illegal injection drugs. Should communities have the option of giving drug users sterile needles or bleach for cleaning needs in order to reduce the spread of HIV? Does needle distribution worsen the drug problem, as opponents of such programs argue? Do they reduce the spread of other serious diseases, such as hepatitis? Do they result in more used needles being carelessly discarded in the community? The panel takes a critical look at the available data on needle exchange and bleach distribution programs, reaches conclusions about their efficacy, and offers concrete recommendations for public policy to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. The book includes current knowledge about the epidemiologies of HIV/AIDS and injection drug use; characteristics of needle exchange and bleach distribution programs and views on those programs from diverse community groups; and a discussion of laws designed to control possession of needles, their impact on needle sharing among injection drug users, and their implications for needle exchange programs..

The 2007 Import and Export Market for Disinfectants and Rodenticides for Retail Sale in Denmark
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale in Denmark face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale to Denmark? How important is Denmark compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale vary from one country of origin to another in Denmark? On the supply side, Denmark also exports disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale. Which countries receive the most exports from Denmark? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale in Denmark. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale for those countries serving Denmark via exports, or supplying from Denmark via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Denmark fits into the world market for imported and exported disinfectants and rodenticides for retail sale. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Denmark in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Denmark is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Denmark compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes..
