Labor and Other Capital: The Rights of Each Secured and the Wrongs of Both Eradicated: With an Introductory Essay "Edward Kellogg: Father of Greenback (Reprints of Economic Classics)
One of the cardinal works of American radical reform which exerted considerable influence on the Greenback and Populist movements. To remedy the increasing concentration of wealth, Kellogg urged an "interconvertible bond plan of financial reform" under which interest would be abolished by means of government notes issued on the security of land or other "real" values. The Greenback movement was an American counterpart, during the decade of the 1840's and again in the 1860's, of the anarchist and communist philosophies of Europe. "Greenbackism was more successful for it left its permanent contribution to American political economy in the legal-tender paper currency." Dictionary of American Biography. This edition includes The True Greenback (1868) by Alexander Campbell and a new introductory essay, "Edward Kellogg: Father of Greenbackism," by Joseph Dorfman..
