Escaping the Giant Wave
The worst vacation ever!

Thirteen-year old Kyle thought spending a vacation on the Oregon coast with his family would be great. He'd never flown before, and he'd never seen the Pacific Ocean.

Kyle's perfect vacation becomes a nightmare while he's babysitting his sister, BeeBee. An earthquake hits the coast and starts afire in their hotel. While fighting their way through smoke and flame, Kyle remembers seeing a sign at the beach that said after an earthquake everyone should go uphill and inland, as far from the ocean as possible. Tsunamis, giant waves that often follow earthquakes, can ride in from the sea and engulf anyone who doesn't escape fast enough.

Can Kyle and BeeBee outwit and outrun nature's fury to save themselves from tsunami terror?.

From Bondage to Bonding: Escaping Codependency, Embracing Biblical Love
BREAKING FREE IS ONLY HALF THE BATTLE.

Most teaching on codependency focuses only on how to break free from unhealthy relationships and establish independence and self-esteem But "the freedom that moves us toward intimacy," says Nancy Groom, "is not merely freedom from codependency, with its fear and loneliness-it's also freedom to love, without control and manipulation."

In this thorough and nontechnical guide to assessment and recovery, Nancy Groom takes you beyond simply escaping codependency. She goes on to help you tackle the tough questions you'll face as you emerge from destructive relationships.

If you want to escape a way of life that keeps intimacy, authenticity, and spiritual vitality in bondage and discover how you can bond to God and others with passion and boldness, join Nancy Groom for a powerful journey-from escaping codependency to embracing biblical love.

"Personally, this is the most helpful book I've read in the past several years. Upon finishing it, I immediately began going through it a second time."-Dr. David R. Mains, Chapel of the Air

"It's about time we looked at codependency through biblical eyes. Groom discusses the journey from bondage to bonding with such clarity that we feel compelled and encouraged to begin our restoration process immediately. She gives rejuvenating hope to all who choose to be set free. This is a must-read for everyone!"-Marilyn Meberg, M.A., psychologist in private practice, Newport Beach, California

"Few, if any, authors have unfolded such a clear, liberating path to recovery as has Nancy Groom. Moving from a life of isolation and bondage into one of deep intimacy and community is not just a theory in From Bondage to Bonding. It's a reality awaiting everyone who is willing to risk."-Marilyn LeVan Chambon, M.A., counselor and workshop leader, Colorado Springs, Colorado TABLE OF CONTENTS: Preface: Promises for the Journey

Escaping the Resource Curse (Initiative for Policy Dialogue at Columbia: Challenges in Development and Globalization)

The wealth derived from natural resources can have a tremendous impact on the economics and politics of producing countries. In the last quarter century, we have seen the surprising and sobering consequences of this wealth, producing what is now known as the "resource curse." Countries with large endowments of natural resources, such as oil and gas, often do worse than their poorer neighbors. Their resource wealth frequently leads to lower growth rates, greater volatility, more corruption, and, in extreme cases, devastating civil wars.

In this volume, leading economists, lawyers, and political scientists address the fundamental channels generated by this wealth and examine the major decisions a country must make when faced with an abundance of a natural resource. They identify such problems as asymmetric bargaining power, limited access to information, the failure to engage in long-term planning, weak institutional structures, and missing mechanisms of accountability. They also provide a series of solutions, including recommendations for contracting with oil companies and allocating revenue; guidelines for negotiators; models for optimal auctions; and strategies to strengthen state-society linkages and public accountability.

The contributors show that solutions to the resource curse do exist; yet, institutional innovations are necessary to align the incentives of key domestic and international actors, and this requires fundamental political changes and much greater levels of transparency than currently exist. It is becoming increasingly clear that past policies have not provided the benefits they promised. Escaping the Resource Curse lays out a path for radically improving the management of the world's natural resources.
