Many students find themselves struggling to learn from texts because glitches in their reading process block learning, cause frustration, and impede success The source of these problems can be difficult to discern. Where's the Glitch? identifies why readers stumble and presents strategies designed to get them back on track and reading well. In Where's the Glitch? Mary Shea shows you how to use modified running records (MRRs) to pinpoint where readers struggle with comprehension, to determine their current reading level, and to assess the specific skills they already possess. Shea explains how to take an MRR and get meaningful assessment data on the spot - even in a busy classroom. Then, she describes how to use that information to plan interventions that integrate instruction in literacy skills with content - area studies. As a result, students increase their reading fluency, overall achievement, and motivation to learn. In addition, Where's the Glitch? includes a helpful tutorial CD that gets you started with MRRs. Glitch: Perfect Imperfections
A "glitch" usually fixes itself in the amount of time it takes for it to be noticed in the first place, whether as a scrambled cable television delay, a page-loading error on an internet browser or a jumble of pixels on an ATM interface. Glitch: Perfect Imperfections consists of over 200 glitch images grabbed, composed and provoked by artists who present these complex fragments of color and lines as thought-provoking mistakes that merit being considered in an aesthetic sense, no matter if as art or as advertising. Artists like Angela Lorenz, O.K. Parking and Karl Klomp muse about what glitches mean to them. The images and text in Glitch capture the fact that no one can deliberately make a mistake, although mistakes are often the greatest sources of inspiration..

A Glitch in Time
I found this peculiar document in a writing desk I purchased for just a few dollars in a run-down little junk shop in London. In a jammed drawer I found a jumble of papers that I took to be letters As I began to read,I realized that the pages weren't letters at all, but a sort of journal, written a hundred years ago, if you can believe the date, written in English, by a woman with a fairly good education, a big mouth and a really bad temper. The writer claims to be related to the famous writer, H.G. Wells, and writes about an amazing voyage through time. I know, ridiculous, right? Maybe, but there's something about the thing that rings true. She was certainly a giant pain in the ass, and a major brat, as you'll see when you begin to read. This lady gets herself spanked a LOT, and it sounds like she had most of those spankings coming! True? Not true? Your guess is as good as mine, but it makes a great read. Whatever you believe, you won't be bored. J. McLaren, April, 2005.

This May Help You Understand the World: From Bush's Blunderings to Global Glitches - The Problems of a Troubled World Made Easy
Everyone has insecurities about what they think they should know-the popularity of Lawrence Potter's previous book, Mathematics Minus Fear, proves that. With its humorous style, his book makes knowledge accessible to anyone. Each day, newspapers deliver fresh information on conflicts all around the world. This May Help You Understand the World assures you that it is okay to need more information than what is carried in today's papers. People do want to understand the facts behind the headlines, and Potter makes it his business to enable this by discussing the following topics: - Who has won more battles: the autocrat, plutocrat, theocrat, meritocrat, bureaucrat, democrat, or pornocrat?
- What did you say this country was called? Identity crises in Eastern Europe.
- Charisma or coercion: leaders we fell out of love with.
- Who's kicking now? Political footballs.
- Buckle up: ideology through the window of a private jet.
