Stricken: The 5,000 Stages of Grief
Grief, by its very nature, is overwhelming And, many people accept that there are established stages of grief: anger, denial, bargaining, and acceptance Sometimes the grief stricken will attempt to plod through these stages with a sense of determination, hoping for a feeling of control during a time that feels totally out of control. Unfortunately, the stages are not linear, nor are they predictable. Grief cannot be rushed. Grief takes its own leisurely and excruciating time. It cannot be gotten around; it must be gotten through. In this book, award-winning author Spike Gillespie and author Katherine Tanney present a series of essays written by those who have been devastated by grief and have found a way through to the other side. From the loss of a loved one to death, to divorce, job loss, and even unexpected sources of grief, Gillespie and other essayists describe their initial feelings of helplessness, their attempts to push through the stages of grief, and the things that gave them comfort and solace along the way..

Grief Stricken!
My name is Charleen Grice Burge. I live in Amarillo, Texas. I have lived in Amarillo for all of my adult life. I was raised in Coldwater Community, about 25 miles north of Dalhart, Texas. I have two sisters: Linda, just older than me; and Kay, just younger than me. I have one brother, Brad. I was finally given this brother when I was twelve years old. I always wanted a little brother, so I would have someone to play with, but he came along so much later that I never really got to play with him. I was going into my senior year of high school when he started first grade. I led a very protected childhood, both of my parents were very strict, but they loved each one of us equally. We knew we were loved for each of our individual personalities. We were taught to be independent, self-reliable, hard-working and responsible adults. We all worked hard, growing up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. We never had much, but we never went without, either. I went to school at Texline, Texas, and graduated in May of 1967. There were twenty-one seniors that year, the largest graduating class in many years. I have no further education, unless you consider the school of hard knocks, and I have had plenty in that particular field. I didn't start writing until May 1993, when my baby graduated from high school. My writing continued due to several traumatic experiences that I have had in the last several years. I learned in grief therapy that writing sometimes helps one get through the grieving process. I have poured my grief and pain onto the pages of the first part of my book. If you feel these emotions, you will see how I survived everything that I have been through. I am sure that some of you can identify with this and maybe even be helped through some of what you have experienced. I have written a few other things also. Some of it borders on humorous. Please read my work and maybe you will find something you like. All of my poetry, verse and short stories are based on events that have happened in my life. Some of it is sad, some is funny, and some is prideful, but it all comes straight from my heart!.
