The $360
million acquisition by
Macromedia of Allaire, for cash and stock, is an
interesting combination from a
cultural point of view. To many in the industry, there are a couple of
different kinds of people
involved in building Web sites - one the right-brained earring-and-ponytail set, more focused on content (Macromedia), and the more left-brained developer-types, who evolved from the pocket-protector set (Allaire), although some say Allaire started out as more of the former. Another analogy would be East Coast tech culture vs., West Coast tech culture. Obviously these analogies are an over-simplification; however, culture does play a part in the ultimate success or failure of any merger. Read this IdeaBundle to learn more..
