From the supplier: A study has examined the influence of a sedentary lifestyle on morbidity and mortality with particular attention to cardiovascular disease, stroke and obesity. Studies have shown that inactive individuals are at twice the risk of heart disease than active individuals. Sedentary and unfit persons are considered more at risk of obesity although confirmatory evidence is necessary. Intervention programs to encourage exercise and increased fitness could reduce the public health burden. Studies suggest 3% of deaths in the US in 1988 may have been preventable.
