Where Were You When…?

Few phrases garner as much attention as “We Interrupt This Broadcast…” Wherever we may happen to be, our lives stop for a moment, and we experience those few seconds of anxiety between the interruption and the actual announcement of what has happened.

In words and images-and on two audio CDs-We Interrupt This Broadcast brings to life the famous and infamous moments that were announced to us with those four chilling words. From the dawn of electronic media to today, from the catastrophe of the Hindenburg to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, these are the forty-three events that stopped us in our tracks and changed our world.

We Interrupt This Broadcast recounts the details of the events and spotlights the photographs that tell the stories. Accompanying the book are two digitally mastered compact discs containing over two hours of audio from the events, narrated by award-winning journalist Bill Kurtis.

These heart-stopping moments include both the famous words you remember and rare audio footage that will take you back into the magnitude of the event. Share with your friends, family, children and grandchildren your memories of where you were when the world stopped and held its breath in anticipation.

We Interrupt This Newscast: How to Improve Local News and Win Ratings, Too
Local television newscasts around the country look alike and are filled with crime, accidents, and disasters. Interviews with more than 2,000 TV journalists around the country demonstrate that news looks this way because of the ingrained belief that 'eye-ball grabbers' are the only way to build an audience. This book contradicts the conventional wisdom using empirical evidence drawn from a five-year content analysis of local news in more than 154 stations in 50 markets around the country. The book shows that 'how' a story is reported is more important for building ratings than what the story is about. Local TV does not have to 'bleed to lead'. Instead local journalists can succeed by putting in the effort to get good stories, finding and balancing sources, seeking out experts, and making stories relevant to the local audience..

In Sickness And In Health: How to Keep Going When Death Interrupts Life
Julie Landry's husband, Allen, was a popular, funloving guy who was as serious about his calling as pastor as he was about having a good time. He had the good looks and the fashion sense of a male model but without the vanity. As a husband, he was romantic, confident, attentive, thoughtful and supportive. He was a wonderful father to their son and a good role model. He was also very, very sick, though he didn't know it until it was too late. Julie admits to being spoiled by a husband who, besides being the sole breadwinner, would bring her lemonade or watermelon to cool her in the Los Angeles heat or sprinkle their bedroom with rose petals on special romantic occasions; who took great care of their finances and who loved to dance at parties. When the couple found out that the cause of his chronic back pain was prostate cancer and that his case was terminal, their world was turned topsyturvy. The wife who would almost struggle to apply a BandAid was soon forced to give shots and look for bedsores as her husband's caretaker. Though a Los Angeles native, she knew little about navigating through various parts of the city. But with Allen bedridden she was forced to better learn her way around. A novice in financial matters, she had to get familiar with handling the bills and the banking. Through a twoyear struggle, from the time of diagnosis until death parted them, Julie chronicles her husband's painful decline and shares fifteen lessons she learned from her experience. She also explains facts about the silent killer that took her husband's life..

God Interrupts History: Theology in a Time of Upheaval
The role of Christian faith in contemporary culture has changed dramatically. Both de-traditionalization (the interruption of the handing on of faith from one generation to the next) and pluralization (Christianity is no longer the dominant player on the religious field) have caused a rupture between faith and its social context. Because of this, modern correlationist theologies, which presume a fundamental continuity between faith and its context, no longer succeed in explaining the relation between Christian faith and contemporary society. But theologies of discontinuity eventually fail as well, because they risk forgetting the intrinsic link between faith and history, society and culture. Christianity today demands a theology beyond theories of continuity and discontinuity. This book develops a theology of interruption. Boeve emphasizes the specificity of the Christian narrative about God, humanity, and their history together, and argues that this specificity urges Christians to be engaged in their context. Because God interrupts history. After an analysis of the contextual changes, the author sketches the fundamental aspects of a theology of interruption. This forms the basis for his further analysis of religious experience, rituals and sacraments, negative theology, religious plurality and incarnation, and apocalypticism..

Attention!: How to Interrupt, Yell, Whisper, and Touch Consumers (Adweek Books)
Business experts reveal why this book will grab your ATTENTION!

"The best thing about Ken Sacharin's book, aside from its reader-friendly format, is its ability to make advertising practitioners think in human terms about the consumer's basic response mechanisms. This provocative book belongs on the must-read list for all marketing directors, brand managers, agency 'creatives,' or account managers. I heartily recommend it."
—Ed Papazian, President, Media Dynamics, Inc.

"In today's increasingly crowded communications space, attention is undoubtedly the customer's most scarce resource. Ken Sacharin's practical and hands-on Attention Mechanics framework will help marketers break out of the noisy business environment and get their messages across to their target audiences."
—Russ Winer, Professor of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
