Intersected Identities: Strategies of Visualisation in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-century Mexico (Remapping Cultural History, Vol. 5)
There has always been an important visual element to the construction and questioning of national identity in post-Independence Mexico, though one that has not always been given its due, outside of the celebrated and much-studied muralists. Ranging from the early nineteenth century to the present from the vogue for the picturesque, illustrated periodicals and the influential writings of Altamirano to a wealth of twentieth-century graphic artists, filmmakers and photographers this book re-examines the complex variety of ways in which that visual element has operated. In particular, it looks at the ways in which discourses concerning ethnicity and cultural hybridity have been echoed and transformed in Mexican visual culture, resulting in fields of visual discourse which are eclectic and increasingly self-reflexive..

Cardinal temperatures for germination of Kochia scoparia (L.) [An article from: Journal of Arid Environments]
This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Arid Environments, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
In order to examine seed germination responses of kochia (Kochia scoparia L. Schrad) to temperature regimes, an experiment was performed in a completely randomized design with two replications. The trial was conducted at 8, and 5^oC intervals from 10 to 40^oC. From 8 to 35^oC, average germination percentage was 85%, but when temperature increased to 40^oC, germination percentage decreased to 31%. At 25^oC, 50% germination was achieved within the first 24h, but when temperature increased or decreased from this level, germination was slower. On the basis of these results, kochia can adjust its germination over a wide range of temperatures, from 3.5^oC (T"b) to 50^oC (T"m"a"x), with an optimum germination temperature of 24^oC. This extended temperature range for germination and the ability to germinate rapidly suggest the high potential of kochia to establish in most areas of Iran as a new forage crop. .
