Urban environmental health and sensitive populations: How much are the Italians willing to pay to reduce their risks? [An article from: Regional Science and Urban Economics]
This digital document is a journal article from Regional Science and Urban Economics, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
We use contingent valuation to elicit WTP for a reduction in the risk of dying for cardiovascular and respiratory causes, the most important causes of premature mortality during heat waves and air pollution episodes, among the Italian public. We find that WTP depends on respondent age and health. WTP increases with the size of the risk reduction, but is not strictly proportional to it. All else the same, older individuals are willing to pay less for a given risk reduction than younger individuals, and poor health tends to raise WTP. Our results support the notion that the VSL is ''individuated.'' .

Increasing product value by integrating environmental impact, costs and customer valuation [An article from: Resources, Conservation & Recycling]
This digital document is a journal article from Resources, Conservation & Recycling, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
The aim of this paper is to propose a model that allows us to add value for customer to a product, by means of the integration of the environmental, cost and customer valuation during its design process. This model is based on the combination of three methodologies: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to evaluate the environmental requirements, Life Cycle Cost (LCC) to examine the internal and external costs of the product, and Contingent Valuation (CV) to quantify the customer's value in terms of his/her willingness-to-pay (WTP) for a product that incorporates certain environmental improvements. As a result, it can be concluded that the product value can be increased with the use of a design that reduces simultaneously the environmental impact and external costs besides allowing manufacturer company to follow the maximum profit strategy. .

The Value of Statistical Life and the Economics of Landmine Clearance in Developing Countries [An article from: World Development]
This digital document is a journal article from World Development, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
This paper presents estimates of the value of statistical life (VSL) in rural Thailand using the contingent-valuation (CV) method. These estimates are applied to an economic analysis of landmine clearance. The estimated VSL of US$250000 suggests that the value of lives saved from landmine clearance is at least an order of magnitude greater than the values used in existing studies. .
