Description: We compare earnings differences between women and men in South Korea to see how gender differences in wages have changed between 1988 and 1998. In 1988, South Korea passed the Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOA) which guaranteed protection by gender in employment. We find that male workers in South Korea enjoy a wage premium in both 1988 and 1998 compared to like women. However, the wage premium for men is significantly less (22.6%) in 1998 than in 1988 (27.2%) all else equal. .
