The Little Book of Restorative Discipline for Schools: Teaching Responsibility; Creating Caring Climates (The Little Books of Justice and Peacebuilding ... Little Books of Justice and Peacebuilding)
Can an overworked teacher possibly turn an unruly incident with students into an "opportunity for learning, growth, and community-building"? If restorative justice has been able to salvage lives within the world of criminal behavior, why shouldn't its principles be applied in school classrooms and cafeterias? And if our children learn restorative practices early and daily, won't we be building a healthier, more just society? Two educators answer yes, yes, and yes in this new addition to The Little Books of Justice and Peacebuilding series. They urge a focus on consequences rather than punishment. They insist that relationships-far more than rules-are central to building community, and that community fosters caring and belonging. They put up with no hypocrisy: teachers and administrators must live restorative practices, too. So how does it all work? Stutzman and Amstutz offer applications and models. Among them are class meetings for 5th graders; reintegration of 7th- and 8th- graders who were suspended; circle processes, which offer space for all voices to be heard, and also quiet tensions that are building; and community conferencing when trouble shapes up between students and neighbors. "Discipline that restores is a process to make things as right as possible." This Little Book shows how to get there..

Designing Visual Interfaces: Communication Oriented Techniques
An excellent introduction to the design theories involved in the creation of user interfaces Instead of the usual examples and pictures of computer screens and application menus, Mullet approaches the concept of UI from its "outside world" roots. With examples ranging from street signs to corporate logos to the map of the London Underground, each section attacks the issues of interface design from the ground up, appealing first to the eye and then to the mind. Task menus are compared with concert programs and street signs are equated with icons.

This is not a technical book, so advanced developers might want to supplement it with a platform-specific how-to. For aesthetic advice and sheer enjoyment, anyone involved with or interested in interface design should pick it up..

Managing IMAP
Plain old Post Office Protocol (POP) is fine for just logging in and grabbing your e-mail from a dial-up service, but more elaborate mail-management and messaging solutions require a more capable protocol. The Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) fits the bill by allowing you to pull off all sorts of mail-management tricks. With IMAP, a single user can see the same messages and folders on many computers, or multiple users (say, members of a sales team) each can integrate a common folder into individual organizational hierarchies. Managing IMAP shows how to perform these feats and many others, and presents a rigorous comparison of IMAP clients and servers.

On the server side, the book focuses on the University of Washington IMAP server--the standard implementation that IMAP inventor Mark Crispin wrote--and the feature-rich Cyrus IMAP server. The features of each are explained, in addition to how each integrates with its operating system. "Common Tasks" for each are covered, including details of precisely what system administrators have to do to establish access privileges on a mailbox, add users, set up shared folders, and so on through their respective feature sets. Most of the how-to material takes the form of "type this, get that" listings, with plenty of annotation that explains what's going on. Later sections are platform-neutral, covering security (perhaps better covered in specialized texts), spam filtering, and performance optimization. Managing IMAP has done a great job of cataloguing and commenting upon the various IMAP administration utilities that exist. --David Wall

Topics covered: The Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) and its implementation, especially in the University of Washington's IMAP server and the Cyrus IMAP server. After presenting the case for IMAP and comparing it to Post Office Protocol (POP), the book shows how to set up and administer both major IMAP servers. It also compares IMAP clients. Other topics that are covered include security, user management, and scalability. A directory of IMAP administration interfaces and an IMAP command reference round out the volume..

Mullet Madness!: The Haircut That's Business Up Front and a Party in the Back
It’s been called “Camaro Hair,” “The Kentucky Waterfall,” “Hockey Hair,” “The MacGyver,” and “The Joe Dirt,” but most people know it as the Mullet, and it may be the most talked about and controversial hairstyle of all time. In its glory days in the 1970s and 80s, it was worn with pride across America and the globe, from glam rocker David Bowie to TV matriarch Florence Henderson (who sported a Femullet—female mullet—on The Brady Bunch). And, of course, it remains the unofficial hairstyle of hockey players everywhere. This humorous pictorial celebration of the Mullet through the years will make those who love the style proud…and provide some ammunition to those who would like to see it disappear forever. It’s as funny, terrifying, and mystifying as the hairstyle itself.

Mullet Run
Author G.W. Reynolds intimately knows every dusty corner and all the peculiarities of this richly textured Southern hamlet first introduced in his debut novel, "Jetty Man." He brings his riveting story into sharp focus through dramatic storytelling and finely drawn characterizations..

Managerial Applications of Multivariate Analysis in Marketing
Multivariate statistical analysis techniques are now an integral part of most large-scale strategic market studies, so marketing practitioners must learn what these techniques can do and how to apply them. However, most marketers have little or no formal training in complex analytical methods, and many have neither the time nor the interest in acquiring this knowledge. If you are one of them, this book is for you. Managerial Applications of Multivariate Analysis in Marketing is written for marketing research practitioners-even those who donÂ’t have time to read it cover to cover. Each chapter is as self-contained as possible so that researchers and decision makers can more quickly understand the fundamentals of any one statistical technique. It is a reference book, not a textbook, so it does not focus on the statistical techniques themselves and leave you to wonder how they apply to marketing. Most of the calculations in this book can be done by a personal computer, so the authors only cover the math you need while focusing on the marketing implications..

The Mullet: Hairstyle of the Gods
The mullet-cut is a style in which the hair is short at the front coupled with a long mane at the back. Popular in the 1980s, entering the zeitgeist and becoming the hairstyle to have, the mullet is now in decline. The authors examine all areas of the phenomenon, from mullets in pop to advertising.
