The book provides an introduction to robotics with an emphasis on the study of robotic arms, their mathematical description, and the equations describing their motion. It teaches how to model robotic arms efficiently and analyze their kinematics. The kinematics of robot manipulators is also presented beginning with the use of simple robot mechanisms and progressing to the most complex robot manipulator structures. While mathematically rigorous, the book's focus is on ease of understanding of the concepts with interactive animated computer graphics illustrations and modeling software that allow clear understanding of the material covered in the book. All necessary computations are concisely explained and software is provided that greatly eases the computational burden normally associated with robotics. Written for use in a robotics course or as a professional reference, Robot Modeling and Kinematics is an essential resource that provides a thorough understanding of the topics of modeling and kinematics..

Micro and Nano Mechanical Testing of Materials and Devices

Nanoscale and nanostructured materials have exhibited different physical properties from the corresponding macroscopic coarse-grained materials due to the size confinement As a result, there is a need for new techniques to probe the mechanical behavior of advanced materials on the small scales. Micro and Nano Mechanical Testing of Materials and Devices presents the latest advances in the techniques of mechanical testing on the micro- and nanoscales, which are necessary for characterizing the mechanical properties of low-dimensional materials and structures.

Written by a group of internationally recognized authors, this book covers topics such as:

  • Techniques for micro- and nano- mechanical characterization;
  • Size effects in the indentation plasticity;
  • Characterization of low-dimensional structure including nanobelts and nanotubes;
  • Characterization of smart materials, including piezoelectric materials and shape memory alloys;
  • Analysis and modeling of the deformation of carbon-nanotubes.

Micro and Nano Mechanical Testing of Materials and Devices is a valuable resource for engineers and researchers working in the area of mechanical characterization of advanced materials.

Design for Manufacturability and Yield for Nano-Scale CMOS (Series on Integrated Circuits and Systems)

Design for Manufacturability and Yield for Nano-Scale CMOS walks the reader through all the aspects of manufacturability and yield in a nano-CMOS process and how to address each aspect at the proper design step starting with the design and layout of standard cells and how to yield-grade libraries for critical area and lithography artifacts through place and route, CMP model based simulation and dummy-fill insertion, mask planning, simulation and manufacturing, and through statistical design and statistical timing closure of the design. It alerts the designer to the pitfalls to watch for and to the good practices that can enhance a design’s manufacturability and yield. This book is a must read book the serious practicing IC designer and an excellent primer for any graduate student intent on having a career in IC design or in EDA tool development.

Defect-Oriented Testing for Nano-Metric CMOS VLSI Circuits (Frontiers in Electronic Testing)

Failures of nano-metric technologies owing to defects and shrinking process tolerances give rise to significant challenges for IC testing. As the variation of fundamental parameters such as channel length, threshold voltage, thin oxide thickness and interconnect dimensions goes well beyond acceptable limits, new test methodologies and a deeper insight into the physics of defect-fault mappings are needed. In Defect-Oriented Testing for Nano-Metric CMOS VLSI Circuits state of the art of defect-oriented testing is presented from both a theoretical approach as well as from a practical point of view. Step-by-step handling of defect modeling, defect-oriented testing, yield modeling and its usage in common economics practices enables deeper understanding of concepts.

The progression developed in this book is essential to understand new test methodologies, algorithms and industrial practices. Without the insight into the physics of nano-metric technologies, it would be hard to develop system-level test strategies that yield a high IC fault coverage. Obviously, the work on defect-oriented testing presented in the book is not final, and it is an evolving field with interesting challenges imposed by the ever-changing nature of nano-metric technologies. Test and design practitioners from academia and industry will find that Defect-Oriented Testing for Nano-Metric CMOS VLSI Circuits lays the foundations for further pioneering work.

Ultra-Low Voltage Nano-Scale Memories (Series on Integrated Circuits and Systems)

Ultra-low voltage large-scale integrated circuits (LSIs) in nano-scale technologies are needed to:

-Meet the needs of a rapidly growing mobile cell phone market
-Offset a significant increase in the power dissipation of high-end microprocessor units.

Low power large capacity memories are a necessary component of low voltage LSIs. Many challenges arise in the process of achieving such memories as their devices and voltages are scaled down below 100nm and sub-1-V. A high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio design is necessary to deal with small signal voltages from low-voltage memory cells in the presence of large noise sources in a high-density memory-cell array. Moreover, innovative circuits and devices are needed to resolve the increasing problems of leakage currents and variability in both speed and leakage. Since the solutions to these problems lie between different fields, (e.g., digital and analog, SRAM and DRAM) a multidisciplinary approach is needed.

Ultra-Low Voltage Nano-Scale Memories is an authoritative monograph that addresses these challenges. This book is written for memory and circuit designers as well as for researchers and students who are interested in ultra-low voltage nano-scale memory LSIs.
