Overexposed: Perverting Perversions (Semiotext(e) / Foreign Agents)
with a new introduction by the author and an additional chapter

Do you ever get aroused by your patient's fantasies? Do you discover through them something about your own sexuality?
--About my sexuality?
You are exposed to a lot of fantasies.
--Oh yes. Quite frankly, I think it has a satiation effect on me. I've been a sex researcher for ten years, and sometimes I get fed up with it, you know. I talk to people about sex all day long, and it does get to be a drag.

--from Overexposed

The most perverse perversions are not always those one would expect. Originally conceived as an American update to Foucault's History of Sexuality,Overexposed is even more outrageous and thought-provoking today than it was twenty years ago when first published by a commercial publisher. By a strange reversal, rather than being punished, deviant desire now is administrated in specialized clinics under medical supervision. Sexual excess is being turned into a "boredom therapy" claiming to rid patients of their own desires by forcing them to indulge them past the point of satiety. But are perversions still perverse when they are vindicated unconditionally? At once clinical, bewildering, and deeply poignant, Overexposed shows how science can pervert itself by identifying too closely with its object. This insider's exposition of controversial cognitive behavioral methods (carried out with instruments straight out of A Clockwork Orange--penile transducer? pupillometer?) is a hallucinatory document on the manner in which our postmodern society exposes sexuality to the point of overexposure--in order to exterminate it..

Overexposed ... (and Slightly Out of Focus): One Woman's Adventures, Misadventures, and an Occasional Misdemeanor ...

Is this author overexposing herself?

Close Calls…escaping by the skin of my…“Before we even knew what he hit, Arab men appeared from every nook and cranny. Like flies around a ripe, red watermelon, they swarmed around our car, peering at us from behind black beards and mustaches Our hearts sank…”

Lodges…the good, the bad, and the ugly…“We had certainly come a long way from the flush toilets…Chobi’s toilet amounted to a chair that resembled a lawn chair, with a toilet seat on it—over a ‘long-drop loo’…Actually, the chair was over a hole in the ground—and this ‘long-drop loo’ had a very short drop…”

Sometimes she’s slightly out of focus…

Oh Those Men… “The zipper down the front of my dress had more than one convenience. Pepe began demonstrating some of the matador’s passes. When he wasn’t looking, I slid the zipper down a little, so I could get a whiff of the oilcloth fumes (from my vinyl dress), as I slouched in my seat. I could nestle my nose inside the v-neck for a scent that was as welcome as a bouquet of flowers by now.”

Overexposed: The Overexposed Model / Journey of a Male Model II
Preface One out of every 20,000 models makes it successfully in the business Just 1 and that's it. These numbers are mind boggling so I decided to write this book in hopes of improving the percentage that do deserve to make it. When I say successful , I mean those that obtained a contract with an agency or long term contract for a specific clothing line. I tried to touch on every aspect of modeling so that you can really get an idea of all that's out there. There is so much more to modeling then just a camera and a photographer taking a picture. People that don't know about modeling don't understand all that must be done before hand. I present to you in this book the tools you will need to achieve success in the business and hopefully something can be picked up by you from this. Even if its one piece of information that you pick up from this book that you can hold on to. My second reason for writing this book is because I remembered in the very beginning of my modeling career I'd walk into a bookstore to try finding modeling resource books.I was always disappointed because there never were any. I remember telling myself , "if I make it big, I'm going to write a book for models and get it on those bookstore shelves." So here I am today giving back to the modeling public what I've learned about modeling. I hope you'll enjoy my 2nd book titled , "Overexposed." Cover photo by Michael Anthony 8x10proofs.com.
