Persistently Challenged: A True Inspirational Story
Persistently Challenged was written to share those life experiences that challenge the very meaning of life. The question "Why me?" is always asked but never seems to be adequately answered. The book conveys there is always hope, and we should never give up even in the face of the most ardent challenges. I have been through devastating crisis involving issues with finances, health and relationships for the past thirty years. I have tried to remain strong in my Christian beliefs that God loves all of us and cares for all of us. At times, it was very difficult to hold onto that belief. I have found that in the most difficult of situations my faith and the love and support from my family is what sustained me through those times. I hope that this book can be helpful to those who have faced or now are facing difficult times..

The role of maternal educational aspirations in mediating the risk of income source on academic failure in children from persistently poor families [An ... from: Children and Youth Services Review]
This digital document is a journal article from Children and Youth Services Review, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
We examined the influence of income source within the context of persistent poverty (from ages 8 through 11) on academic failure by age 12, and whether associations were mediated by maternal educational aspirations for their children assessed at ages 10/11. Using a subsample (N=1112) of the data from the Quebec Longitudinal Study, we coded four economic circumstances on the basis of persistent poverty (income-to-needs ratio less than 1.50 times the poverty line) and income source (working-poor, welfare-dependent, work-and-welfare-dependent, vs. never-poor working) from ages 8 to 11. Relative to their peers in never-poor working families, children in both welfare-dependent and working-poor families were at greater risk of having experienced academic failure, net of demographic characteristics, child gender, and early inattentiveness. The risk of academic failure for these children was partially explained by mothers' lower educational aspirations for their children. .
