From the supplier: William Sayers's argument regarding Guthlaugr Snorrason is within the framework of a secular reading which would call for a rewriting of the 'Heitharviga saga' in order to accomodate his interpretation. Textual examination would show that the redness of Guthlaugr's face is not a reaction to Snorri's remark. The incident was also a recollection by Snorri, when Guthlaugr was already a holy man.

However, the scene referred to would indicate that the reddening of Guthlaugr's face has more to do with anger at having his honor slighted than epiphany. Kari Ellen Gade's study of 'Haralds saga hathratha' focuses on the embarrassing incident Einarr was subjected to and its bloody consequence. The practical joke was more vulgar than her interpretation allows.
