Redeeming Love
In this splendid retelling of the biblical story of Hosea, bestselling author Francine Rivers pens a heartbreaking romance between a prostitute and the upright and kind farmer who marries her; the story also functions as a reminder of God's unconditional love for his people. Redeeming Love opens with the Gold Rush of 1850 and its rough-and-tumble atmosphere of greed and desire. Angel, who was sold into prostitution as a child, has learned to distrust all men, who see her only as a way to satisfy their lust. When the virtuous and spiritual-minded Michael Hosea is told by God to marry this "soiled dove," he obeys, despite his misgivings. As Angel learns to love him, she begins to hope again but is soon overwhelmed by fear and returns to her old life. Rivers shines in her ability to weave together spiritual themes and sexual tension in a well-told story, a talent that has propelled her into the spotlight as one of the most popular novelists in the genre of Christian fiction. This is one of her best. --Cindy Crosby.

Redeeming Creation: The Biblical Basis for Environmental Stewardship
"Preeeeep." The sound of the peepers, tiny frogs an inch or two long, penetrated the dusk. Beneath the jack pines at the edge of a small pond in the northern Michigan woods, the males were calling their mates. A professor and a group of ecology students sat speechless as closer and closer, louder and louder, more and more peepers joined in chorus."There was just light enough to see them, crawling up a bracken fern to find a singing perch, filling their throats with air like tiny balloons about to burst and then giving forth at close range an ear-splitting 'preeeeep.' . . . Now we were immersed in the peepers' lives, not ours. And when the concert ended and the peepers had gone away, we laughed together for the sheer joy and power of life displayed for a moment in the grand efforts of one tiny creature to be fruitful and multiply."Combining compelling stories with both biblical and scientific investigation, Redeeming Creation addresses the ecological crisis we face today.
  • population explosion
  • rain forests stripped bare
  • destruction of animal habitat
  • the death of entire species
  • depletion of the ozone layer
  • global warming
The authors, four biologists and teachers, believe that we can face these dilemmas with hope. Moving beyond a mere survey of the planet's ills, they bring Scripture into fruitful dialogue with current scientific findings and commitments. They both inspire and inform our individual and corporate response to God's creation..

Juvenile Justice: Redeeming Our Children

Juvenile justice policies have historically been built on a foundation of myths and misconceptions Fear of young, drug-addled superpredators, concerns about immigrants and gangs, claims of gender biases, and race hostilities have influenced the public's views and, consequently, the evolution of juvenile justice. These myths have repeatedly confused the process of rational policy development for the juvenile justice system.

Juvenile Justice: Redeeming Our Children
debunks myths about juvenile justice in order to achieve an ideal system that would protect vulnerable children and help build safer communities. Author Barry Krisberg assembles broad and up-to-date research, statistical data, and theories on the U.S. juvenile justice system to encourage effective responses to youth crime. This text gives a historical context to the ongoing quest for the juvenile justice ideal and examines how the current system of laws, policies, and practices came into place.

Juvenile Justice
reviews the best research-based knowledge on what works and what does not work in the current system. The book also examines failed juvenile justice policies and applies high standards of scientific evidence to seek new resolutions. This text helps students embrace the value of redemptive justice and serves as a springboard for the current generation to implement sounder social policies.

Juvenile Justice
is an ideal textbook for undergraduate and graduate students studying juvenile justice in Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Sociology. The book is also an excellent supplemental text for juvenile delinquency courses.

An Israeli in Palestine: Resisting Dispossession, Redeeming Israel
Jeff Halper is an Israeli who lives and works in Palestine This book throws a critical light on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from an Israeli point of view. Israel's pioneers created a vibrant society, culture and economy. Yet the idea of an ethnically-pure "Jewish State" is no longer viable. Only 72 per cent of Israelis are Jewish, and this proportion is dwindling. To enforce its ethnic exclusivity, Israel adopts policies of occupation and discrimination against Palestinian citizens.

Halper puts forward a passionate argument for a new Israel that finds its identity not through ethnicity, but through new ideological and legal frameworks that respect all human rights, and that fundamentally realign Israel's position within the Middle East. Halper explains why a two-state solution will never solve issues such as human rights, refugees, security, access to water and economic development. Instead he develops a positive vision for a new state where Palestinians and Israelis live side by side.

Redeeming Science: A God-Centered Approach

Many people think science is antagonistic to Christian belief. Science, it is said, shows that the universe is billions of years old, while the Bible says it is only thousands of years old. And some claim that science shows supernatural miracles are impossible. These and other points of contention cause some Christians to view science as a threat to their beliefs.

Redeeming Science attempts to kindle our appreciation for science as it ought to be—science that could serve as a path for praising God and serving fellow human beings. Through examining the wonderfully complex and immutable laws of nature, author Vern Poythress explains, we ought to recognize the wisdom, care, and beauty of God. A Christian worldview restores a true response to science, where we praise the God who created nature and cares for it.

“Poythress shows how a proper understanding of biblical theology makes possible not just one but many credible harmonizations of biblical and scientific truth. Along the way, he provides an insightful defense of the theory of intelligent design as a viable scientific research program. His examination of the mathematical beauty inherent in the universe gives yet another compelling reason to acknowledge the wisdom and design that lie behind physical reality.”
Stephen C. Meyer, Director, Center for Science and Culture, Discovery Institute

“With doctorates in both New Testament and mathematics, and with a solid commitment to orthodox Reformed theology, Vern Poythress is uniquely qualified to write on the theology of science. This is by far the most important book you can read on this subject. I recommend it without reservation.”
John Frame, Professor of Systematic Theology and Philosophy, Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando

“Poythress demonstrates just how natural the partnership is between science and Christianity. Using examples from a variety of scientific disciplines, he gives a prescription for how science and the Christian faith can interact in a way that mutually benefits both.”
Fazale Rana, Vice President of Science Apologetics, Reasons to Believe

“Not only does this book offer a theological perspective rooted in the historic Reformation, it also attends to strategies of interpretation of Bible texts concerning nature and history that underwrite doctrine but are often left out of the dialogue.”
Jitse van der Meer, Professor of Biology and History and Philosophy of Science, Redeemer University College, Ancaster, Ontario

“Sound theology meets sound science in this book as Vern Poythress shows us how to see the beauty of God’s character revealed in everything that scientists study in the created universe.”
Wayne Grudem, Research Professor of Theology and Bible, Phoenix Seminary, Scottsdale, Arizona

“Poythress’s analysis of the relationship between science and faith proceeds from an unapologetic, undisguised confession of belief in Christ, clear-minded evaluation of the nature of science, careful analysis of Scripture, and honest reflection on the present state of this debate.”
T. M. Moore, Pastor of Teaching Ministries, Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, Tennessee; author, Consider the Lilies: A Plea for Creational Theology

The Two Tasks of the Christian Scholar: Redeeming the Soul, Redeeming the Mind

In 1980, Dr. Charles Malik gave a memorable and poignant address at the dedication of the Billy Graham Center on the campus of Wheaton College. He presented a challenge in two tasks: save the soul and save the mind. Malik believed that in order to evangelize the academic world, evangelism must learn to speak at an academic level. He called people to raise their level of thinking and sharpen their minds to this end.

In this book several contributors seek to apply this message to our current context. It is a call to academics especially to integrate Christian faith with their disciplines and to be intellectual in their faith for the purpose of communicating at the level of their peers and students.

“Readers will come away strengthened in their faith and in their ability to use the mind faithfully for the service of God. Read, ponder, and read again.”
Mark A. Noll
Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History, University of Notre Dame

“This is a wake-up call that should be read by all Christians interested in the world of ideas and apprenticeship to the Lord Jesus.”
J. P. Moreland
Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University

“Every Christian professor in every academic discipline should read every essay in this book.”
James W. Sire
Author of The Universe Next Door and Habits of the Mind

“An excellent job of describing the current status and dreams of the Malik vision.”
Henry F. Schaefer III
Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry, University of Georgia

“This does justice to the dignity and brilliance of Malik and to the greatness of Jesus Christ as our world’s only hope.”
Kelly Monroe Kullberg
Author of Finding God at Harvard

“An outstanding group of scholars offer stimulating insights and interesting nuances on the Two Tasks.”
Stan W. Wallace
National Director, InterVarsity’s Faculty Ministry

“This generation must take Malik’s challenge seriously. Then we will fulfill Malik’s call and this volume’s challenge.”
Daryl McCarthy
President, International Institute for Christian Studies

“Readers will be inspired to give their lives to integrating faithful Christian living and witness.”
Gregory E. Ganssle
Yale University, Rivendell Institute

“Read this call for courage, and may God’s scholars take up the charge in our generation.”
Lon Allison
Director, Billy Graham Center; Associate Professor, Wheaton Graduate School
