$1 Million Jury Award Is Reinstated For Teacher Who Criticized Conditions: An article from: Education Week
In a unanimous opinion on Apr 5, a three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit has reinstated a $1 million jury verdict award to special education teacher Pamella E. Settlegoode, who claimed that she was fired by public school officials in Portland OR in retaliation for complaining that her students were getting a raw deal. The appeals panel said that the judge was unjustified in overruling the jury, and that teachers must be able to advocate for students with disabilities, "who may not be able to communicate effectively that they lack appropriate facilities."
