From the supplier: The property-casualty insurance industry's exposure to derivatives risk is relatively minor, according to a survey of property-casualty insurers' investment officers. Some insurers, such as the United States Automobile Assn, have no derivatives investments at all despite maintaining an $11 billion investment portfolio. The UK investment bank Barings went bankrupt due to its exposure to derivatives, but domestic property-casualty insurers seem to have a very conservative position regarding derivatives exposure.
