From the supplier: Toponymy and topography as rhetorical deflationary devices in Flaubert's Madame Bovary, are examined. Emma's constant attempts to match reality-scape with fantasy-scape is articulated by an Argueil/fantasy opposition. Her real location seems to correspond to a dream stereotype, although the ridiculousness of Emma's delusions are highlighted by a corrosive irony.
