From the supplier: One of the costliest and most serious problems in US telecommunications is cellular fraud. The most prevalent technique is cell phone counterfeiting or cloning. The perpetrators use a special scanner to get the electronic serial number and the mobile identification number of a cell phone and clones these into other phones. When the clone is used, the bill is passed on to the cell phone owner. The industry has taken measures to detect and prevent this through access control and caller profile. Access control may be through algorithmic authentication, voice printing or radio-frequency fingerprinting.
