Slurry Systems Handbook
The most comprehensive resource on slurries and slurry systems, covering everything from fluid mechanics to soil classification, pump design to selection criteria. Slurries are mixtures of liquids and solid particles of all types. For instance, liquid is used as a way of transporting what you get out of the mine, which might be better than shoveling it into freight cars and carrying it out by train. Slurry systems are fundamental to dredging, many mineral processes, bridge and tunnel construction, and to the manufacturer of synthetic petroleum products from oil sands..

Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps
Vast tonnages of solid-liquid mixtures are pumped every year in dredging operations, mining and waste-disposal applications. Most of these systems are centrifugal pumps, and the resolution of problems encountered in slurry pumping requires both detailed scientific knowledge and judgment derived from practical experience. For many years the combination of up-to-date analysis and hands-on experimentation has been provided to interested engineers in a short course based at the GIW Hydraulic Laboratory. The lecturers in this course, who represent a broad background of international expertise, have prepared this widely-recognized text, Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition. This unique text is logically divided into two sections: the first part of the book concentrates on the behaviors of various sorts of slurry flow, and the second part deals with the behavior of centrifugal pumps handling slurries, and with how pumps and pipelines interact as a system. Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition also includes: - New material on both non-Newtonian flows and slurries of granular particles.
- New information on pump wear, solids effect, and system operation.
- Updated and completely new material on pump selection and environmental aspects
- Worked examples and case studies that stress practical applications
Slurry Transport Using Centrifugal Pumps, Third Edition, will be of interest to all engineers and technologists involved in the large-scale transportation of slurries. . .

Multivariate Analysis of the Effect of Graduate Education on Promotion to Army Lieutenant Colonel
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A684714. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The objective of this thesis is to estimate and explain the effects of graduate education and other factors on promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (0-5) in the US Army. Our focus was primarily on determining whether graduate education provides officers with higher promotion probabilities. Besides graduate education, data that were analyzed include basic demographic traits, the officers' prior enlisted status, and their commissioning source information. The data used in this study were taken from the Active Duty Military Master File for fiscal years 1981 through 2001. This study develops multivariate logit regression and classification tree models to examine and explore the structure of the data sets. Both the regression models and the classification trees yielded positive results for the effect of graduate education on promotion. According to the regression model results, the odds ratio associated with graduate education is between 1.79 and 2.25. Military Academy and ROTC/Scholarship graduates have higher promotion probabilities than those from other sources, and married officers have higher rates than single officers. Additionally, age has a negative effect on promotion; that is, promotion probability decreases with age. Prior enlisted status, number of dependents, gender, race, and DOD primary occupation code do not seem to have statistically significant effects on promotion..

Job Satisfaction and Personality: The Utility of the Five-Factor Model of Personality
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A853663. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This study examined the relationship between personality and job satisfaction in a major international corporation. Personality features were specifically defined by the Five-Factor Model (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) assessed by the Big Five Inventory: Version 44 (John, Donahue, & Kentle, 1991). Data were collected from 804 participants in six occupational areas (technical, business, human resources, administrative, legal/wellness, and non-exempt) and spanning four job classification levels (senior management, middle management, supervisory, and non-supervisory responsibility employees). Correlational analyses revealed a significant, inverse relation between Neuroticism and job satisfaction in all but one job category..
