From the supplier: The character of Helen Ferguson in Ernest Hemingway's 'A Farewell to Arms' is romantically attracted to Catherine Barkley, despite critics' failure to recognize the lesbian elements of their relationship. Ferguson and Barkley share romantic settings, and Ferguson is always angered when Henry interrupts and takes Barkley's attention away from her. Barkley herself recognizes that Henry and Ferguson are jealous of each other. The character of Miss Gage can be seen as a heterosexual nurse included by Hemingway to contrast the actions of the lesbian Ferguson.
